He was fatally wounded in a notorious duel with Georges-Charles de Heeckeren d'Anthès. Keep Calm! Scientists Discovered a New Mechanism of Coping with Stress

A team of SUSU scientists, jointly with experts from the Ural Division of the Russian Academy of Sciences and immunologists from China (Huazhong University of Science and Technology), have presented a new understanding of the role of the JAK-STAT intracellular signalling system, which regulates such processes as the growth, development, division and destruction of cells in body, in case of stress disorders. Researchers have proposed to expand the range of means treating the signalling system and disorders caused by stress. 

Alexander Wagner Took Part in the Meeting of the Council on Higher Education and Science under the Governor of the Chelyabinsk Region

Governor of the Chelyabinsk Region Alexey Texler chaired the Council meeting. In the course of the meeting, the head of our region, leaders and scientists of universities summed up the results of the Year of Science and discussed the priority directions of development of our region’s scientific potential. The governor congratulated the representatives of the scientific community on their professional holiday and reported that the interest in research activity is growing across our whole country. SUSU Scientists Help Chelyabinsk Tractor Plant Increase the Russian Tanks’ Engine Capacity

ChTZ-URALTRAK (Chelyabinsk Tractor Plant) is part of the Russian defence industry complex, and it mainly produces dual-purpose diesel engines with the capacity of up to 1500 hp. The plant is currently solving an important problem on increasing the capacity of a series-production engine, while not making it heavier or leading to losses in its service life. Forcing of the engine inevitably entails increased loads on the main parts, components and units.

Historians of the Institute of Media, Social Sciences and Humanities Co-authored a Book about Chelyabinsk Cinemas of the 20th Century

On January 18th, a presentation of the book Chelyabinsk Cinemas of the 20th Century took place at the Chelyabinsk Public Assembly House. The co-authors of the book were Professor of the Department of Russian and Foreign History of the SUSU Institute of Media, Social Sciences and Humanities Evgeniy Volkov and Associate Professor of the same department Maksim Sapronov. Other authors were local historians Dmitriy Grafov, Iuriy Latyshev, and Mikhail Khabirov.

Advanced Engineering School "Heart of the Urals" Will Be Opened at SUSU

Chairman of the Government of the Russian Federation Mikhail Mishustin announced the results of the competitive selection of the Advanced Engineering Schools federal project. In 2022, 30 universities had become winners of the project; in the second wave of selection in 2023, 57 applicants from 40 regions were heard, as a result, 20 winning universities were selected. South Ural State University entered the second group with funding of 230.4 million roubles in 2024.

The Ministry of Science and Higher Education of Russia has published a ranking on media activity among Russian universities as of December 2023. South Ural State University has improved its standing by 10 positions and has taken the 11th place in the overall ranking.

Scientists from the Institute of Engineering and Technology Created an Unmanned Bulldozer Controlled from a Smartphone

SUSU and the DST-URAL Tractor Plant have joined forces to create a remote-control loading machine. Compared to analogues, the Russian machine wins in price on the special-purpose machinery market. This machine has already been tested for clearing snowdrifts in January 2024.
