Machine Builders Day is celebrated in Russia on the last Sunday of September. We talked with the Director of the Mechanical Engineering Research Institute Ramil Zakirov on why this holiday is so important to our university.
– December 15, 1943 is the birthday of Chelyabinsk Mechanical Engineering Institute (SUSU today). We originate from mechanical engineering. Please tell us about the traditions which appeared and exist in our university in this direction.
Just before the event, the registration and the selection round had completed. To participate in the in-person round of the Olympiad, the contestants had to solve at least one task in the online selection round. School pupils along with SUSU and CSU students of various majors took part in the competition.
On September 19th, a seminar for young writers was held at the Department of the Russian Language and Literature of the Institute of Media, Social Sciences and Humanities.

An all-season airfield sweeping and blowing machine, engineered by SUSU jointly with Moscow Automobile and Road Construction State Technical University (MADI) and OOO Zavod SpetsAgregat, is designed for cleaning airfield runways in winter and summer. The work on the import-substituting development of an airfield sweeping and blowing machine was conducted from 2020 to 2023, and at the moment the equipment has been tested on a prototype and is ready for mass production.
Entrepreneurial Skills Training Courses were held for students of South Ural State University by OOO TEN Education in the format of "Build a Company. Sell the Company" business game at the SUSU Sigma Education and Recreation Building on September 13th and 20th.
The SUSU Department of Linguistics and Translation Studies, with the support from the Academic Writing Office of the Institute of Linguistics and International Communications and jointly with the Chelyabinsk Regional Branch of the Union of Translators of Russia, will hold the Translators' Fall Sprint 2023. The 24th Congress of Pavlov Russian Physiological Society, one of the oldest scientific societies in Russia, was held in Saint Petersburg.

Scientists from South Ural State University have discovered that prototypes of such products as cheese, cottage cheese and soured milk appeared in the territory of South Ural region between the 3rd and the 2nd millennium BC. The tradition of fermented dairy foods were brought here by the migrants from the Eastern Europe and Caucasus, where people had learned to cook such foods already in the end of the Stone Age.

ACHIEVEMENTS.RF (ДОСТИЖЕНИЯ.РФ) big project has been launched in Russia. It is an all-Russian online information platform, where the achievements of modern Russia in different spheres are presented, and the Chelyabinsk Region is also included here.

At the Top 50 Famous People of the Chelyabinsk Region awarding ceremony, SUSU Professor Al-Suhaimi Sobhi Ahmed Azab has been awarded the prize in the Science category. The contest was held by the R: a Magazine about Reputation with a Capital R, and the ceremony itself took place in the hall of the Pegas equestrian complex.
The organisers chose a number of scientists of the Chelyabinsk Region for the Science category, and popular vote determined a single winner among them.
The "Re-Turn" ("Воз-Вращение") exhibition of ceramics and paintings by Aleksandr Purik opened in the Art Gallery of South Ural State University on September 15th. Aleksandr Purik is a participant in numerous art exhibitions and festivals, a member of the Union of Artists of Russia, a teacher at the Department of Decorative and Applied Arts at the Chelyabinsk State Institute of Culture.
On day two of the Projects and Analytical Session, SUSU's lead staff members determined the prospects and horizons for the development of our university. At the plenary session, the dynamics of changes in the university in retrospect were considered, and the main vectors for its improvement in the context of modern challenges were identified.
In order to increase environmental awareness among citizens, involve children, young people and older generation in environmental agenda, the Federal Service for Supervision of Natural Resources has established the “Ecology Is Everyone” International Award for children and youth.

Projects and Analytical Session is being held at South Ural State University September 11th-13th. SUSU scientists, jointly with experts from Ufa, Perm and Saint Petersburg are discussing the programs of development of strategic projects.

International students enrol in South Ural State University every year. Today, more than 2000 international students from 56 countries of the world are studying at the university. International applicants learn about the university from their friends, at educational venues, through social media, university advertising on the Internet, representatives of Russia abroad and from other information sources.
Governor's engineering classes conducted jointly with SUSU will be opened in schools in the Chelyabinsk Region in order to create conditions for graduates of schools and vocational educational organizations to make a motivated choice in obtaining higher education.
On the instruction of the President of Russia, the best students and postgraduates in our country will begin to receive a scholarship named after S.P. Korolev from September 1st. The scholarship is paid by the Government of the Russian Federation for significant achievements in engineering. According to the results of the competition, 10 scholarships were awarded for students and 10 for postgraduates.

A presentation of supplementary academic programmes in non-IT areas of professional retraining for university students was held in the Assembly Hall of South Ural State University on September 6th.
Digital Departments is a joint project of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education and the Ministry of Digital Development, Telecommunications and Mass Media of the Russian Federation aimed at developing the competencies necessary to perform a new type of professional activity, acquiring a new qualification in information technology.
South Ural State University has climbed 100 positions up in “The Three University Missions” world universities ranking in 2023. SUSU has also entered the top 30 in the rankings of Russian universities, having become the first among Chelyabinsk universities and the second among universities in the Ural Federal District.
